Description
This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. The Department of Veterans, VA Boston Healthcare System, has a requirement for molecular and cellular neuroscience bench work for use in research. A valid Justification For Other Than Full and Open Competition exists; the selected individual possesses a unique set of qualifications and experience. VA plans to award this requirement on a sole source basis. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE PROPOSALS. The solicitation number is VA-241-11-RQ-1019. This requirement is not set aside. TOTAL:__________________________________________ OPTION PERIOD ONE: AUGUST 29, 2012 THROUGH OCTOBER 28, 2012 2. Perform research in molecular and 320 hrs _________ cellular neuroscience utilizing animal and cellular models of neurological diseases and traumatic brain injury. Project will require approximately 40 hours of work each week. All work shall be performed as stated in the Statement of Work. TOTAL:__________________________________________ AGGREGATE TOTAL:____________________________ B.3 Statement of Work Scope: The contractor shall provide Research Laboratory Services for the Bedford VA Medical Center, Bedford, Massachusetts. Research laboratory services require a comprehensive knowledge of the Bedford VA IACUC Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures as well as the GRECC and Research Service Lab safety Program. Contractor will perform molecular and cellular neuroscience research utilizing animal and cellular models of neurological diseases. The contractor will assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the research laboratory. Minimum Qualifications: Must have a Bachelors degree and 1-2 years experience in an experimental neurology laboratory. Must have completed Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative curriculum for "Working with Mice in Research Settings" and "Working with the VA IACUC". Description of Services: 1.Maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies which includes daily animal monitoring, breeding, weaning, application of animal identification tags and tail clipping. 2.Performing experimental procedures on animal models of neurological diseases. Procedures will include administering intraperitoneal injections of Brdu, edu, lentivirus and retrovirus, administering euthanasia on mice, performing postmortem perfusions and harvesting tissue specimens postmortem. 3.Preparation and processing of mouse tail snips for lysis, DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction assays and gel electrophoresis using the BioRad MyCycler thermocycler and horizontal gel electrophoresis system. 4.Histological preparation and processing of biological tissues for microscopy and tissue culture in vitro using a Microm HM430 sliding microtome and Lancer vibratome sectioning system. 5.Perform microscopy to detect wnt signaling activity using the Zeiss axio Contract Terms: Normal work hours are from 0800 to 1630 Monday through Friday, however experiments and colony maintenance may require the contractor to work additional hours to complete the tasks. Completion of the project will require 2400 hours. The C&A requirements do not apply and a Security Accreditation Package is not required.
