Description
The National Park Service (NPS,) Point Reyes National Seashore, intends to negotiate a sole source contract with The Lighthouse Consultant, LLC for the restoration and replacement of component parts of the lens rotation mechanism of the historic Point Reyes National Seashore Lighthouse. The Lighthouse Consultant LLC is the only company known to have experience working on this highly complex, historically significant museum item, which was originally constructed in 1870. The Point Reyes 1st Order Classical Fresnel lens is a foremost example of the lens maker's art of the mid-19th century. The complete illuminating apparatus consists of over 1000 individual parts, made primarily of cast iron, cast bronze, Crown Crystal glass and brass. The lens assembly is made up of a non-moving base or pedestal & cabinet section, a delicate clockwork that provides motive power to the lens, an intricate system of wheels and rollers that provide rotation and alignment, and an assembly of individual glass prisms and bronze frames that make up the light producing part of the apparatus. All replacement parts will require fabrication and must operate within extremely narrow tolerances. Correct balance and interaction of all components parts is critical to avoid potentially catastrophic failure. This announcement is NOT a request for quotes and there is no request for quotation available. Responsible firms may submit a letter of interest and a statement of capability / qualifications by the closing date of this notice, which will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct a competitive procurement. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based on upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
