- PROJECT #CH151 Replacement of Garage Sewage Pumps. GENERAL The project comprises the replacement of Chicago Pumps duplex non-clog sewage pump system. The proposed pumps could be equal to those as manufactured by Chicago Pump Company or similar complete system from other manufacturers. Chicago Pumps shall be the Type VCS (Vertical Closed Shaft), frame LLC4. Each unit shall have a capacity of 250 GPM when discharging against a total dynamic head of 55 feet and operation at a maximum speed of 1450 RPM. PUMP CONSTRUCTION Discharge casing, suction cover, bearing pedestal, discharge elbow and the motor pedestal shall be close grained, ASTM A 48, Class 30 cast iron. Impellers shall be of close grained, ASTM A48, Class 30 cast iron and dynamically balanced. The pump shafts shall be of high grade turned ground and polished steel conforming to ASTM A 108, Grade 1045. The pump shaft shall be enclosed in a schedule 40 steel hanger pipe and guided by renewable bronze sleeve bearings. Sleeve bearings shall be mounted in flanged cast iron plates. Sleeve bearings shall be of the grease lubricated type. The shaft hanger pipe assembly shall have machined tongue and groove registers through the entire assembly to insure perfect alignment. The thrust bearing shall be of the ball type, heavy duty, grease relubricable, completely housed in the pump bearing pedestal not less than 10" above the bottom of the pump floor plate. Impeller wear adjustments shall be provided at the thrust bearing, the adjustment shall be of the micrometer type so designed to provide adjustment without dismantling any part of the pump or removing the motor. A suitable packing gland with graphite impregnated braided packing shall be furnished al the pump floor plate where the shaft passes through the floor plate. The pump discharge shall be equipped with a flexible joint both at the point where the discharge pipe leaves the pump casing and where it terminates at the cast iron 45 ° screwed fitting at the pump floor plate. The discharge elbow shall be designed and arranged to prevent discharge piping beyond elbow from imposing or transmitting any pipe strain on the pump shaft column. ELECTRIC DRIVE The pumps shall be driven by 10 HP, 1450 RPM, 208 Volt, 3 Phase, 50 Hertz vertical, normal thrust solid shaft motors with NEMA "C" mounting flange in an open drip-proof enclosure. Motors shall conform to NEMA design B, general purpose, constant speed specifications. MOTOR CONTROLS NEMA 250, Type I enclosure, pedestal-mounted float switches, with floats, float rods, and rod buttons, for 9'0" basin depth. Include automatic alternator to alternate operations of pump units on successive cycles and to operate multiple units if one pump cannot handle load. High water alarm switch w/out horn. FLOORPLATE Only proposed manufacturers different than Chicago Pumps shall include in the proposal the floorplate as follows: Duplex square steel basin cover with manhole and manhole cover. Fabricate with openings having gaskets, seals, and bushings for access to pumps, pump shafts, control rods, discharge piping and vent connections. Material: Cast Iron or steel with bituminous coating. Reinforcement: Steel or cast iron, capable of supporting foot traffic for basins installed in foot-traffic areas. Accessories: Two switch stand plates. Float guide pipe cover plate. Size: 54"X54" (Under Chicago Pump nomenclatures, basin size: 48). FINISH The pump above floor plate shall have one coat of rust inhibitive primer and one shop coat of machinery enamel. The pump and discharge pipe below the floor plate shall receive one coat of black bituminous coating. SUBMITTALS The proposal shall include: Product Data: Include certified performance curves with operating plotted on curves, and rated capacities of selected model, furnished specialties, and accessories. Shop Drawings: Pump dimensions, steel basin cover details, float controls assemblies, diagram power, signal, and control wiring. Manuals: Installation, operation and maintenance data. QUANTITIES AND BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF ITEMS Qty.: 2 Chicago Pump or Similar, VSCLLC4 pumps, each rated for 250 Gpm @ 55' TDH, and each built for 9'-0" basin depth. Qty.: 2 10HP, 1450 RPM, 208/3/50, vertical, open dripproof motors. Qty.: 1 C-84 Float Control or Similar with brass rod. Qty.: 1 Alternating float switch. Qty.: 1 High water alarm switch. Qty.: 2 Combination X-line starters with circuit breakers and H-O-A selector switches. Qty.:1 Square Basin Cover. Basin Size 48 from Chicago Pump or Similar. Note: Include this items only if a different brand than Chicago Pumps will be included in the proposal. END OF SPECIFICATIONS
