Questions and Answers AG-0116-S-11-0089 Kennel Creek Cabin Installation Questions and Answers No information given on this document amends the solicitation. Question 1: I have a question pertaining to the woodstove. I spoke with the registered vendor and we were unable to find the height from the cabin floor to peak of the roof in the plan, which is needed in order to get the correct measurements for the stove's venting pipe. Answer 1: Distance from the cabin floor to peak of roof is approximately to be 17' 9". Question 2: Deck bull rail calls for 5/8"x13" lag bolts. What's the spacing? Answer 2: There are 2 lag bolts per 2x4 block, 3" from each end (12" O.C.). Question 3: Any finishing applied to the added deck, picnic table, sign posts or boards, or woodshed? We used cedar tint x100 (standard USFS cabin finish) on the cabin. Answer 3: The standard USFS cabin finish should be applied to the woodshed and picnic table. Use Sikkens Cetol SRD, color: Cedar, or approved equal. Apply two coats to call exposed surfaces except signposts, according to manufacturer's directions. Question 4: Decking plans call for 50d spikes to hold planks down. At 8 fathom we used 6" log screws on the deck (permachink LBC). Log screws have more holding power and are easier to install. Are we allowed this change for the deck? Answer 4: Yes. Question 5: Materials for the picnic table specs indicate they are rough sawn. Do you want them planed? Answer 5: Yes. Lumber for the picnic tables should be S4S. Question 6: The woodshed overhand. Roof overhang appears to be 12 inches on the sides, but all are undefined, clarify? Answer 6: The overall dimensions of the roof are 9' deep (along the slope) and 10' wide. Back and sides have an overhang of 1'. Front overhang is 1'10". Question 7: What amount is the bid guarantee? Answer 7: The amount of the bid guarantee is 20% or $3,000,000, which ever is less. Question 8: 6/20/11, In regards to SST toilet do the floor plan, elevation, foundation drawings, and Romtec building specifications supplied from the manufacturer (Romtec) meet the required submittal guidelines in section 01330? Answer 8: 6/23/11, The manufacturer of the SST should be able to provide the required documents for the submittal as specified in section 01330. Question 9: 6/20/11, Can you tell me if the cabin at Icy Straits Lumber in Hoonah is in a position to be trucked down the road? Can you tell us more details about that. Answer 9: 6/23/11, The cabin is very large and requires a large trailer to be moved. The roads to the project site are narrow, have limited sight distance and sharp turns and may be difficult to truck the cabin over. It is the contractors' responsibility to determine. It is expected that most contractors will choose to barge the cabin to the site. Question 10: 6/20/11, Also is there D1 in a stockpile that would work as government furnished materials? Or is there a commercial source nearby? Answer 10: 6/23/11, The nearest, full-time commercial source for graded rock is in Juneau, Alaska. There are times where graded rock may be available in Hoonah. The government will not be furnishing D-1. Question 11: 6/20/11, In regards to the removal of the existing cabin; are we demolishing it or transporting to a new site? Answer 11: 6/23/11, The removal of the existing cabin is not a part of this contract. Question 12: 6/20/11, For the stone blanket would you like the rocks to be rounded or are fractured rocks suitable? Answer 12: 6/23/11, Crushed rock can be used for the stone blanket as long as it meets the specifications. Question 13: 6/20/11, After the cabin is in place; will the government stake the remainder of all "project elements" or does the contractor need to stake and survey required elements as well? Answer 13: 6/23/11, The government will stake one or more corners of the remaining site elements after the cabin is in place. Additional surveying and staking may be required for construction and is the responsibility of the contractor. Question 14: 6/20/11, The Beach Access ramp on page 12 of the drawing plans does not give a length to the proposed beach access ramp; was that done intentionally? Answer 14: 6/23/11, The Beach Access ramp is approximately 25' long over the horizontal distance, and has a change in elevation of approximately 5'. The ramp should be constructed to meet the specified slope.
