Description
Research is needed for the development and prototyping of an advanced personal learning capability which is being pursued by DASD(R)/Training Readiness and Strategy (TRS) - Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative, in response to the White House request for USD (P&R) to take the lead on the śapplication of learning technologies in DoDEA schools and elsewhere. ť The overarching goal is to take the learning concepts from the 1965 Project Head Start program and DARPA ™s Education Dominance program and implement them using a customized, individual-based approach that leverages today ™s networking and computing technologies. This modern application is envisioned to provide a persistent, asynchronous 24/7, personalized learning associate (PLA) for students across the entire learning continuum. This future learning ecosystem will provide training and learning environments (software agents) with the capability to tailor and adapt instructional material to fit the individual ™s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, learning style, level of proficiency, and the learner ™s present state of being and understanding across a broad range of content so that learning analogies/approaches can be effectively constructed and implemented by the associate. At the core of the PLA is an intelligent agent (IA) that emulates an expert personal trainer/coach, capable of learning about an individual, taking into account individual differences (prior knowledge, ability, learning rates, working memory, etc), sensing their learning state (e.g., attention, fatigue), and tracking and monitoring their learning throughout their life ”adapting course material in a manner best suited for the individual.
