- This is a request for information (RFI). This is not a solicitation. This RFI is being conducted for information and planning purposes only. This RFI does not constitute a Request for Proposal and should not be construed as a commitment by the Government to award a contract as a result of this RFI. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst is seeking the services of: engineering design, repair and retrofit to a Giddings and Lewis Planer Mill, model number PTMM, used for manufacturing components for the U.S. Navy. The machine has a 40 bed, 2 vertical cutting heads, and 2 horizontal cutting heads. NAVAIR Lakehurst, NJ seeks potential sources and no cost capability information of commercially available machine repairs and retrofits. The planer mill is a Giddings and Lewis model PTMM manufactured in 1954. Multiple mechanical and electrical problems limit the machines capabilities. Services to be provided shall include: -restoring vertical motion of the cross rail. -restoring operation of the existing, or installation of a new cross rail locking device. - resurfacing ways and replacing ball screws on cross rail to restore smooth motion of vertical cutting head. -Removal of one vertical cutting head and counterbalancing of cross rail for the remaining vertical cutting head. -Repair or replace the remaining vertical cutting head. -Repair of the bed drive system to restore smooth motion. -Repair or replace horizontal cutting heads. -Increase maximum spindle speed from 300rpm to 1200rpm on all three remaining spindles. -Installation of automatic drawbar or other system to aid in tool changes. -Installation of CNC control for table positioning. -All design and engineering services necessary to complete the above tasks. Information in the following areas will assist NAVAIR Lakehurst in the development of its procurement strategy. Respondents to this RFI are requested to address the following information in their response to the Government: Service literature: brochures, catalogs, or other documents listing repair and retrofit services provided. Repair and retrofit history with planer mills. Warranty information for repair work. Business size (8a, small, women owned, etc.) Corporate capability and experience Technical capability Quality Assurance certifications Production capability including facilities Responses should cite RFI number N68335-11-RFI-7200 and be addressed to the attention of Ms. Melissa Bucci, Code 2.5.2.5.2MB. All responses are due by 10 June 2011. Respondents are notified that a formal solicitation MAY NOT necessarily result from this RFI. The Government will not pay for any information received in response to this request, nor will the Government compensate any respondent for any costs incurred in developing the information provided to the Government. The Government will not release any information marked with a Proprietary legend, received in response to this RFI, to any firms, agencies, or individuals outside of the Government without written permission in accordance with the legend.
