Description
Request for Information (RFI) for Virtual Server Licenses: The U.S. Geological Survey has a Request for Information (RFI) seeking sources who can provide Virtual Server Licenses in accordance with the technical requirements/specifications listed below. This is not an announcement of a Solicitation. This is a Request for Information (RFI) not a formal Request for Quote (RFQ). The USGS is only seeking sources who can provide a solution for the provided technical requirements/specifications. In accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.215-3, Request for Information for Solicitation and Planning Purposes (October 1997), this notice is issued solely for information and planning purposes. It does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP). The Department of the Interior (DOI) USGS intends to assess the responses to inform its decision-making. This notice is not to be construed as a commitment by the government to contract for services. The government will not pay for any information provided as a result of this notice and will not recognize or reimburse any cost associated with RFI submission. Responses to this RFI will not affect a potential offeror's ability to respond to any RFQ that might follow. Please ensure that any sensitive or protected information is marked as such and the government will ensure this information is not released externally. Technical Requirements/Specifications: - Must be able to over allocate memory among the virtual servers and then dynamically switch it around. For example if the physical server has 24GB memory and there are 3 virtual servers, you should be able to allocate 10GB of memory on each server because the virtual software will dynamically limit it to 24GB without having each virtual server have a hard static limit.- The virtual software shall require less than 500 MB of space for the software to operate.- The virtual software must provide the ability to replicate a server on the fly. It should allow one to taken an entire server instance and then make a copy of it including all settings and configurations. The copy can then be stored or moved to another physical server.- Must be able to operate on the following physical server OS: SuSe 10 or higher, Red Hat, Windows 2008 R2- Must be able to run virtual environments for the following OS: Suse 11 or higher, Red Hat, Windows 2008 R2, Solaris- Must be able to run different virtual OS on the same physical server. For example, one virtual server is Suse 11 and the other virtual server is running Windows 2008 R2.- Must be able to run on different types and size levels of hardware from a laptop up to a blade center server. - Must provide direct driver I/O capability in order to limit any bottlenecks.- Must provide a way to prioritize network traffic, storage i/o and other resources between the virtual servers on a physical server. - Must be able to manage fail over from production to disaster recovery as well as fail over between servers with active loads.- Must be able to automate test runs of recovery plans for testing scenarios as well as cleanup of testing environments after tests are completed. - Must provide tools/features that will allow for capacity and performance planning as well as tracking what is currently being done. This will allow us to effectively look at what is being used today and decide if upgrades are needed. It will also provide key information in deciding if additionally there are resources to install additional virtual servers.- Must be able to add virtual drives/partitions to existing virtual servers on the fly without having to take the virtual server down - Must provide monitoring tools to provide status on availability of the virtual servers as well as performance.- Must provide tools to allow alerts/notifications to be sent specified groups or user when certain thresholds are met or failures occur.- Must provide network capability to do both NAT and bridging. (end of technical requirements/specifications) To notify the Government of sensitive information, data identified as Proprietary (e.g. 41 USC section 423, the Procurement Integrity Act restrictive legend per Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.215-1, contained in a response to this RFI, offerors shall mark the cover page of the response and each affected page of the response with indications that it contains proprietary information. The Government assumes no liability for the disclosure or use of information contained in a response if it is not marked proprietary. Interested parties who believe they have the capabilities to meet the technical requirements/specifications are invited to submit a capability statement, not to exceed 10 pages, company information, and the specifications of the Virtual Server License you propose can meet the technical specifications to the Contract Specialist via email at jenglehart@usgs.gov no later than 11:00 AM EDT, Monday, April 11, 2011.
