- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) intends to issue a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) to support research on two groups of people who were impacted by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001: (1) rescue, recovery, and clean-up workers and (2) residents, students, other workers, and visitors in the vicinity of the WTC site. Since the attacks, the Department of Health and Human Services, CDC, and NIOSH have been active in assessing the health impact of the WTC disaster. On January 2, 2011, the President of the United States signed into law the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010. The purpose of the intended BAA is to award multiple fixed-price contracts for scientifically rigorous research to help answer critical questions about physical and mental health conditions that have been, or may be, related to exposures resulting from the 9/11 attacks. The BAA will be open to investigators affiliated with a current WTC Clinical Center, WTC Data Center, or the WTC Health Registry, and the complete BAA will be available for downloading at www.fbo.gov on or about April 12, 2011. No verbal or written requests for copies will be accepted.
