Description
The US Department of Interiors Office of Surface Mining (OSM) is requesting the submittal of qualifications to perform construction in an underground mine in Antioch, California. Generally, the work will involve mitigation of underground mine hazards (abate leakage of carbon dioxide into occupied spaces and eliminate fall hazards) in limited access areas. The work will include, but will not be limited to providing adequate construction ventilation for potentially oxygen deficient environment; concrete demolition; excavation of partially collapsed/backfilled mine workings; construction of polyurethane foam (PUF) plugs; soils and, or cellular grout backfill; and spoils removal and off-site disposal. Invitation for Bid (IFB) Solicitations will be sent only to contractor's with the following qualifications: Contractor: valid California Contractor's license; minimum of 3 underground mine and, or tunnel rehabilitation / construction projects of at least $200,000.00 contract or subcontract value in the last 5 years; liability insurance not less than $250,000.00 each person, $500,000.00 each occurrence, $500,000.00 property damage; ability to provide bid bond, and performance and payment bonds of at least $200,000.00 value; Contractor's Superintendant (most senior supervisor on the Project full-time) minimum of 10 years underground mining and, or tunneling experience (at least 2 years within the last five years); Contractor's Underground Safety Representative and Gas Tester, experienced in underground mining and, or tunneling and certified by Cal-OSHA Mining and Tunneling Unit. IFB will be issued late April and construction will begin mid June of 2011.
