- NAVAIR is continuing develop responses to questions recieved. An update will be available NLT Friday, 11 March 2011. The page count limitation is revised to 60 pages overall. The response date is exetended to April 25, 2011 at 2:00 EDT. The word "certified" in the second sentence of paragraph 3) <<Emphasis is on providing a low-cost, CERTIFIED architecture that incorporates as much Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment as practical to provide a cost-effective and rapid increase in capability to the KC-130R>> has many meanings. One meaning is that the system has been approved for flight by the applicable Airworthiness Authority. For example, the GPS system that is being installed on Navy C-130T aircraft will be certified airworthy by NAVAIR. FAA/ICAO certification for flight in international airspace would also be considered as another type of certification (CNS/ATM certified). An autopilot may be certified for CAT-I approaches. We'd like to know to what extent your proposed system is certified in all respect. The PMI will be posted in a future addition to this RFI.
