- Yellowstone National Park is issuing a Sources Sought notice for a potential name brand purchase. Nature and/or description of the item/service being procured and its intended use:The Grand Teton/Yellowstone Natural Soundscape Program uses automated sound monitoring instruments for year-round data collection. Since the program's 2003 beginning, the central component of these systems has been Larson Davis (LD) 824 that are being replaced by LD 831 sound level meters. The Grand Teton/Yellowstone Soundscape Program currently has six LD 824s and six LD 831s. Larson Davis developed a substantially improved sound level meter (LD 831) that will advance and improve the Soundscape Program's data collection efforts. The 831 meter uses substantially less power that results in fewer batteries and solar panels to power the systems. The 831 meter collects sound levels AND digital recordings that will replace the need for a laptop computer in the system substantially reducing system costs and power requirements while improving the recording quality. The integrated functions will allow more rapid and less conspicuous deployment and in areas farther from easily accessible locations (e.g., backcountry sites). Items to be purchased are:LD831-FF Larson Davis 831 Sound Level Meter Kit with FFPP 50mV Microphone831-OB3 Firmware, 1/1, 1/3 Octavev Bank Frequency831-LOG Firmware, Interval Logging, 20 mS to 4 hoursLD CBL 170 CableLD EXC 010 Microphone Extension CableWS-005-F Foam Widescrens Microphone Name Brand Request Rationale: Existing software compatibility:The NPS has developed specialize software to process data from both the original LD 824 sound level meter and the LD 831 model. All sound level meters have unique formatting and data storage requirements. These essential NPS-developed software programs will not work with other manufacturers' sound level meters and are necessary for data analysis and reporting. Hardware and accessories:The LD 831 sound level meter (SLM) uses numerous accessories (environmental shroud, microphones, preamplifiers, cables, power supply) that are interchangeable with both the LD 824 and LD 831 models currently in use at Grand Teton/Yellowstone. This makes the integration of an additional LD 831 simple and cost effective. The 831 sound level meter is an important component of our soundscape program and the instrument that will eventually replace all LD 824 sound level meters in the program.
