- Description
- REPLACE 5TH FLOOR AHU AND ASSCOCIATED DUCTS PROJECT NUMBER 575-11-105 This project is a design build construction contract. The contract will require a professional service to survey the occupancy of the 5th floor, Building 1 and design a variable air volume system with electronic controls. Design is expected to meet energy efficiency standards as set by trade authorities and the Federal Government. The air handler unit will utilize the existing connections for steam and chilled water. Construction will remove the existing system and install the new system. Construction will also require the removal of asbestos board surrounding the interior surfaces of the radiator wells throughout the 5th floor along with removal of the perimeter steam heating radiators. Infection control procedures will be an integral part of the design. Coordination with all on-site VA constructions projects are expected by this contract. Constructed in 1980, the existing system is dual duct, high velocity, and constant volume system. The AHU and ductwork serves approximately 15000 square feet of patient care area. The existing air handling unit is located on the roof structure of the 6th floor with supply and return air duct work penetrating the interstitial space between the 6th and 7th (penthouse) floors. The area is currently occupied by Intensive Care, Mental Hygiene and Post Anesthetic Care Unit. Because of this occupancy, the design/build contractor will be required to provide a work schedule that will minimize impact on those services. The design and construction of this project is anticipated to involve 270 days. During the construction period, the contractor is expected to provide safety barriers and other means to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff. The C & A requirements do NOT apply to this project. The design and build shall utilize the VA Master Specifications and Design Manuals/Guides as found at www.cfm.va.gov/til/spec.asp. Other codes and standards are current editions of ASHRAE, NEC, ANSI, NFPA, OSHA and IBC.
