Description
project schedule concept drawings The Smithsonian Institution is issuing a Sources Sought Announcement for the National Postal Museum to indentify vendors with the capability to construct museum quality display cases that contain banks of pull out frames to display stamps and letters for a future gallery expansion. This is not a Request for Proposal. The Government is not obligated to and will not pay for any information received from potential sources as a result of this announcement. Any information submitted by respondents is strictly voluntary. This Sources Sought Announcement does not restrict the Government to a particular acquisition strategy. Any procurement resulting from this announcement will be synopsized separately. Please note that prospective contractors must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database prior to award of a contract. Information on registration and annual confirmation requirements may be obtained by calling 1-888-227-2423 or via the Internet at http://www.bpn.gov. The work is to obtain museum quality display cases that contain banks of pull out frames to display highly valuable stamps and letters. There are a total of 468 pull out frames which go into 21 display banks. See the attached concept drawings for sizes and details. The display banks will be placed throughout the Museum galleries. The attached drawings are concept plans only and are not final engineered drawings for construction. The selected vendor will work with Museum staff to develop engineered drawings for production of one prototype display bank for testing and aesthetic review, followed by final engineered drawings, manufacturing, shipping, and installation of the display banks and pull out frames at the National Postal Museum. A mock-up of a complete bank of 25 larger-format frame cases (32" x 40" size) will be reviewed by Museum staff at the manufacturer's facility. The completed banks and pull out frames must be delivered and installed in the National Postal Museum, 2 Massachusetts Avenue NE in Washington, DC no later than August 31, 2012. (See attached Project Schedule for specific dates.) The vendor must be able to provide a warranty of ten years on the banks and pull out frames, and the ability to negotiate long term maintenance agreements beyond the warranty period. The display banks are to be constructed of steel framing with sliding mechanisms. The larger size units will have lockable storage cabinets within the lower portion of the units. The frames are two-sided to allow for a viewing panel on each side. The exterior of the display cases will be clad with a combination of wood, bronze and stone; which may or may not be part of the scope of work for the selected pull out frame casework manufacturer. The total number of display banks and sizes of frames are as follows: 3 banks of six (6) 18" x 22" pullout frames 2 banks of twenty-five (25) 18" x 22" pullout frames 16 banks of twenty-five (25) 32" x 40" pullout frames Interested firms should review the drawings and the information provided and submit a capabilities statement package to the contracting office point of contact. All responses shall include company name, company address, points of contact, and if company is small business, 8(a), HUBZone, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Woman-Owned. The capabilities statement shall address at a minimum the following: 1. Provide at least three examples of prior experience in this regard. For each such experience, please provide information on organization supported, images of the completed work, dates work completed, and point of contact information for each example. 2.
