- The Forest Service contemplates releasing a solicitation on or about Oct. 28, 2010, for the Spit Point Stewardship project. This acquisition is under the authority of Section 347 of Public Law 105-277 to achieve land management objectives while meeting local community needs. In this acquisition, a combination of appropriated dollars and forest products will be used to obtain land management activities from a contractor. About 520 MBF of merchantable timber (a combination of spruce, hemlock, and alder) is available in three stands near Spit Point, in Carroll Inlet on Revillagigedo Island, near Ketchikan, Alaska. These stands are in the beach buffer, where previous clearcuts have resulted in dense conifer regeneration, elimination of the forage understory, and reduction in structural diversity. Two of the stands are 17 acres in size; one is 12 acres. In these three stands, the contractor will improve the wildlife habitat by removing biomass material and treating remaining slash. There are no roads connecting the project area to Ketchikan, and there are no roads connecting Ketchikan (or Revillagigedo Island) to the North American continent. The contemplated schedule includes solicitation release on or about Oct. 28, 2010, a pre-proposal conference in Ketchikan is scheduled to be on Nov. 22, 2010, and proposals due on Dec. 6, 2010. The solicitation is now available from this FedBizOpps website. A prospective offeror should visit this FedBizOpps website from time to time to stay up-to-date on this acquisition. A request for proposals (RFP) is contemplated. NAICS Code 113110, Classification Code F, and Product/Service Code F006 are contemplated. The anticipated award date is before Dec. 31, 2010. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which will be considered.
