Description
The Air Force Research Laboratory, Directed Energy Directorate (AFRL/RDS), Kirtland AFB, plans to issue a Request for Proposal for the upcoming Atmospheric Research and Experiments for Space (ARES) Program (total estimated program cost: $984K with an anticipated duration of 36 months). ARES Program Objective: Crucial to understanding the principles behind atmospheric compensation and developing new Adaptive Optics (AO) technology will be the further development of new theoretical models, new modes of operation of atmospheric compensation systems and components, modeling and/or simulating the consequences of these theoretical models and modes, proposing experiments to test these models and modes, and analyzing the results of these experiments in order to confirm these methods and modes. Emphasis will be placed on the development of innovative and novel contributions to the state of the art, not necessarily on addressing each specific area. The contractor shall provide the scientific personnel and effort, scientific documentation, quality control, and managerial personnel to support the requirements encompassed by this statement of work. Proven, highly skilled theoretical, simulation, and experimental analysis support for concept generation, evaluation, and refinement for real-time compensation of the effects of both weak and strong turbulence for imaging and laser beam propagation through turbulence. The contractor will be required to come to the SOR, as required, in order to participate in experiments in real time, and to analyze data. The contractor shall be responsible for acquiring and/or writing simulation and analysis software, except for occasional use when on site. This enumeration of technical areas is not complete or definitive. Throughout the performance of the contract, new adaptive optics concepts, within the scope paragraph, may be added.
