Description
RECOVERY - THIS NOTICE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. THIS REQUIREMENT WILL BE PROCURED ON A NON-COMPETITIVE BASIS UNDER AN EXISTING INDEFINITE DELIVERY/INDEFINITE QUANTITY CONTRACT FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR THE NIST CENTER FOR NEUTRON RESEARCH (NCNR). This notice is issued in accordance with the guidance for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This project is being funded using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds. Contract Number SB1341-07-CQ-0016, Task Order Number 10478, was awarded to Merrick and Company of Aurora, Colorado on September 29, 2010, in the amount of $4,663,448.08. The period of performance is September 30, 2010, through November 30, 2011. Description of Services The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)/NCNR reactor is equipped with a thermal shield. This radiation shield consists of steel and lead that has to be water cooled in order to be kept at a temperature where it does not change shape under its own weight. Over the many years of usage the thermal shield plumbing has developed tiny leaks, which are impossible to repair. Work under this task order requires the fabrication of, installation of, and training for the upgrade of the thermal shield plumbing system whereby the cooling water is administered by moving it through the shield using a vacuum rather than a positive pump pressure as in the present mechanical configuration. The task order has been awarded on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 16.505 (b) (2) (iii).
