- Announcement: The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) Honolulu District invites interested parties to attend a symposium to inform prospective contractors/suppliers of current USACE requirements for airfield concrete paving, hot mix asphalt, and base course. This symposium will be held free of charge, on the Island of Hawaii, in the Kona International Airport (KOA) District Managers Conference Room on Nov 5, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please contact the US Army Corps of Engineers Project Manager, Mr. Kalani Smith at 808-438-0121 if you are interested in participating. The number of participants will be limited to 25-30 people. USACE Honolulu District anticipates the following FY14 project: C-17 Kona Auxiliary Training Runway, that involves construction of a 4,550' x 100' Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) runway at the Kona International Airport (KOA) to serve as an auxiliary training runway for C-17 aircraft based at Hickam Air Force Base, Oahu, Hawaii. The new runway will be located parallel to existing KOA Runway 17-35. Other work will include but not be limited to: 300-ft overruns at each end of the runway, 500-ft touchdown zone, asphalt concrete shoulders, utility infrastructure, taxiway lighting, navigational aids, etc. Seating is limited and will be reserved for the first 35 individuals that call and reserve seating.
