Description
Motors 93-A and 93_b drive compressors JM-3A and JM3-B, respectively, and these two compressors are the only other source of High Pressure Air (HPA) for multiple AEDC test cells besides the VKF main compressor plant. HPA users over the next six months include the Navy Standard Missile, the F-100 Engine Component Improvement Program, the Joint Strike Fighter, the F-22, and a major APTU checkout program which follows the completion of several investment projects. The test facilities supporting these critical programs will create a very heavy demand load on the AEDC HPA systems during this timeframe, requiring HPA customers to rely on the VKF Main Plant and one JM-3 compressor at a time. However, the VKF Main Plant is scheduled to be taken out of service beginning in May 2011 for nine months, leaving the JM-3 system as the only available source of HPA for the entire base. It is imperative that both of these 50 year old motors be repaired as soon as possible so that both of the JM-3 compressors can be returned to service before the main plant is taken out of service. This means that the first motor must be repaired immediately so that there will be time to reinstall it and remove, repair, and reinstall the second motor before the mian plant downtime begins. The estimated time to repair each motor is eight to twelve weeks, not including removal and reinstallation time.
