Description

JEOL is the sole manufacture of the JSM-6510/LGS Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Only JEOL is authorized to perform support, maintenance, upgrades, and licensing for the JSM-6510/LGS. The ATF NCETR requires an SEM that will not only be compatible with the current SEM/EDS technology currently employed by the ATF Laboratory System, but can be service by the same company. All parts of the system must work together. If any problems occur, the laboratory requires technical support personnel that can troubleshoot the entire system. JEOL is the only entity that can fulfill this requirement. ATF has invested substantial time and effort to develop methodologies for the SEM/EDS analysis of explosives and explosive residues. No other manufacture can provide an instrument for development of methods which could be utilized by the systems presently owned by ATF in each of its three Forensic Laboratories. ATF has utilized JEOL instrumentation for many years to support its mission in the area of explosives analysis. The ATF intends to enter into a contract with JEOL to purchase the JSM-6510/LGS with JEOL USA, Inc., 11 Dearborn Road, Peabody, MA 01961.
