- This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The Surgical Pathology Laboratory processes tissue for microscopic examination, an exercise that has traditionally been labor intensive, with ample opportunities for pre-analytical error. These errors most often involve errors in patient identification, including mislabeling tissue cassettes, errors at the embedding station, and slide labeling errors. These types of errors have a negative impact on patient safety and lead to increased costs within the laboratory in terms of time and possible medico legal issues. Objectives: Buy a Anatomic Pathology (AP) Barcode Tracking System that utilizies 2-dimensional (2D) barcodes to label AP specimens, track their location and status throughout tissue processing, and increase patient safety through reduction in identification errors.
