- USAID/Southern Africa (located in Pretoria, South Africa) has been identified as a training site for the Development Leadership Initiative (DLI) Junior Officers (JOs) joining the Agency. Thus far, five DLI JOs have been assigned to the Mission and approximately 15-20 more will be deployed during fiscal years 2010 - 2011, with 20-25 DLIs assigned at any given time, on a rotating basis. Additionally, USAID/Southern Africa serves as a Regional Training Center which will provide training for an additional number of DLI JOs annually. A DLI training and mentoring program of this magnitude requires dedicated coordination and support to ensure that training plans are developed in light of regional and other training opportunities; that an effective mentorship program is implemented; that space and logistical requirements are met to provide a supportive work environment for the junior officers; and that all other logistical and training needs are met for the DLI training program in USAID/Southern Africa. The Coordinator will also play an important role as the DLI JO counselor - the in-house expert designated to provide guidance on training and mentoring to first tour officers. The Mission DLI Coordinator for USAID/Southern Africa will serve as the lead on all activities related to the DLI program in country. This position will be located in the Front Office and will provide Mission-wide support for all offices. The DLI Coordinator will work with the R/EXO and Front Office to oversee all facets of DLI administrative management; DLI training and rotations; play a key role in developing and maintaining a strong mentoring program at USAID/SA; and perform other duties as assigned by the USAID/SA Mission Director.
