- Second Amendment to respond questions provided. 1) Please advise the scientific name for the species sought? Answer - Historically, NIAID has purchased African green monkeys with various origins including but not limited to the Caribbean and Africa. As stated in the SOW, Genus Chlorocebus species is aethiops. Chlorocebus aethiops sabaeus would be acceptable. If a subspecies is being proposed, clearly define the type. 2) Please advise if Caribbean or African origin animals are required? Answer - Both Caribbean and African origin animals would be acceptable. However, regardless of the origin all other requirements of the SOW must be met. Please identify within the proposal the origin of the animals being proposed to the Government. 3) Are animals of St. Kitts/Barbados origin acceptable? Answer - Yes. As to the requirement that the animals be bred in captivity, please also advise if animals from the isolated population in the Caribbean are accepted as "captive bred" as this appears to have been the case with some past procurements. Answer - Animals from Captive breed colonies are typically preferred based on a more defined overall health condition. Clearly describe in detail proposed isolated populations for consideration.
