- Description
- The US Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, is planning to construct an addition to the drainage tunnel in the right abutment of Howard Hanson Dam. The new addition will be approximately 225 long and will be driven from within the existing drainage tunnel. Geologic conditions anticipated during tunnel advancement include: volcanic bedrock, landslide debris, fluvial sands and gravels, and lacustrine silts. Excavation dimensions will be approximately 10 by 14 with initial ground support consisting of forepoling, shotcrete, and lattice girders. Final structure will consist of a 18-inch thick cast-in-place reinforced concrete liner with a finished interior of approximately 6 by 9.5. Structure features will include an under-floor drain, connections to vertical wells installed under a separate contract, interior lighting, and a permanent ventilation system.
