Description
412 TENG/CL has a requirement for string potentiometers that will be used for the T-38C Program. This unit is a transducer that detects and measures lineal position and velocity utilizing a flexible cable and spring-loaded spool. Potentiometers are used to measure the length of a moving object. The measurement cable can be connected directly to the moving part to give a direct measurement of the point of interest. These potentiometers must have exact form, fit and function as the units presently installed in the T-38C. The following are specific dimensions that only fit the T-38C aircraft. The engineer had to measure the T-38C space that resulted in identifying the following dimension measurements: PART NUMBER DIMENSIONS 176-0521 2.49 in X.52 in 173-0241 1.28 in X.45 in 180-0803 1.49 in X 1.69 in 160-0643 1.81 in X 1.56 in Furthermore, drawings have already been designed by the mechanical engineers to fit in the aircraft. If we had to procure new potentiometers from another manufacturer, it would require a redesign of the aircraft installation and a new T-2 Mod Package to install the new potentiometers. The re-engineering and T-2 Mod Package would be very costly to the Government; Re-engineering would take approximately two months at a cost of $25,200 in man hours as shown in the following breakdown of labor rate and labor hours: LABOR CATEGORY LABOR RATE LABOR HOURS TOTAL Mechanical Engineer $105.00 120 $12,600 Electrical Engineer $105.00 120 $12,600 FINAL TOTAL $25,200 The T-2 MOd Package is estimated at $50,000 to install the new potentiometers per aircraft. Breakdown of labor rate and labor hours are: Model Maker $81.00 160 $12,960 Electrical Tech $81.00 160 $12,960 Dock Chief $81.00 80 $6,480 Mod Manager $103.00 160 $16,480 FINAL TOTAL $48,880 FIRST MARK designed, developed, configured and manufactured this unit. In addition, FIRST MARK solely owns the technical proprietary data.
