- Description
- The work requires road resurfacing for the maintenance of Forest Service road 48N04 (Ten road) on the Doublehead District of the Modoc National Forest. The existing road section, under Forest Service jurisdiction, is approximately 5 miles long with an existing, functional pavement width ranging from 21.5 to 25 feet. Shoulders are present on either side ranging from two to three feet in width. There is a wide turn area/radius connecting 10 road with 97; this will need to remain the same size in the resurfaced road. The existing pavement consists of chip/seal layers on soil foundation; with thickness varying from 0 to 1.5 inches. The existing pavement and vegetation on the roadway needs to be removed, aggregate course laid and compacted, and in one option topped with a double chip seal. There are segments along the roadway where the removal method for the vegetation must not disturb the soil. A railroad crossing and a utility right of way are present in the project area.
