- Description
- The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Volcano Science Center intends to procure an award for radiocarbon analyses of organic matter samples required for geologic studies of volcanoes and preparation of surficial and volcano hazard maps. The Volcano Hazards Project of the Alaska Volcano Observatory has a need to determine the ages of volcanic deposits in order to produce hazard and surficial geologic maps. This project has been systematically studying and dating volcanic deposits with data produced by Krueger Enterprises, Inc., doing business as Geochron Laboratories Division, of Billerica, MA. USGS intends to continue use of Geochron Laboratories to maintain the integrity and consistency of its geochronologic data base. Geochron Laboratories has specific expertise in the dating of soil organic matter, a substance USGS routinely collects for dating during its studies of Alaskan volcanoes. USGS does not intend to request proposals of other firms.
