Description
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Plasma Physics Division (Code 6700) conducts a broad experimental and theoretical program in basic and applied research in plasma physics, laboratory discharge and space plasmas, intense electron and ion beams and photon sources, atomic physics, pulsed power sources, laser physics, advanced spectral diagnostics, and nonlinear systems. In particular, the NRL Plasma Physics Division performs basic and applied experimental, theoretical, and computational research to advance fundamental knowledge in high temperature plasmas. This work encompasses a variety of areas ranging from high energy pulsed power systems to plasma experimentation and studies to observational diagnostics of the near-earth space environment. It also entails theoretical and computational research in plasma processing; theoretical and experimental research and development for high power RF sources, beam handling systems, and pulsed or continuous plasma discharges; and experimental research and other support for high-velocity electromagnetic launchers.
