Description
The United States Military Academy is looking for vendors that have the capability to build, demonstrate, and deliver one prototype brushless motor tendon-muscle control system with two tuned brushless motor muscle/tendon actuators. The bi-directional plantar flexion/extension control system must be capable of achieving a dorsi/plantar flexion sweep within 30% of a single gait cycle executed at 100 steps per minute. The control system must include a user interface that allows the amputee/operator to switch between a walk and run gait cycle. The input may be semi-automatic or manual, but must allow the amputee to properly transition between a walk and run gait with less than one second delay. The control system sensor array must be compatible with the existing control system developed by the USMA cadet design team, which relies solely on two analog sensor signals to properly determine the relative orientation of the foot with respect to the tibia, and the absolute orientation of the foot with respect to the ground reference frame, within 3% error, throughout the gait cycle. Multiplexing signals is not a viable option as it will not support the USMA Cadet capstone scope of work. The control processor algorithms must be developed using MATLAB Simulink RTW to allow modification and testing by the USMA Cadet capstone design team. All developed supporting libraries and control blocksets must be delivered with the control system for use/modification by the USMA cadet design team. The contract awardee must also collaborate directly with the USMA Cadet design team to develop the integrated control box and harness/carrier; must approve the mounting, clearance, ventilation of the assembly prior to manufacture; and must assemble the control box upon receipt of the manufactured box/harness/ carrier assembly. The dimensional constraints of the control system are 75 cubic inches with a weight no greater than 7 lbs with battery system. The contract awardee must redesign the motor control system to accomodate the Neumotor 1708-1Y brushless motor and integrated Rollvis satellite roller screw assembly. The actuator assembly must accomplish the control objectives using a 90mm lever arm,.3mm pitch three-start (1mm effective pitch) thread roller screw assembly and 100 N/m tendon springs. The contract awardee must deliver the control system within four - five months of the date of the contract. Any source that can perform the above requirement must have validated their capabilities at a Technology Readiness level (TRL) 6 (system/subsystem prototype demonstration in a relevant environment) to facilitate the West Point Bionic Foot team design objective of performing TRL 6 walk over ground tests 1 February 2011 to 27 April 2011. Any vendors that feel they have the capability and capacity to perform the above shall send their company name, Point of Contact, Telephone Number, e-mail address, as well as their capabilities to perform the above, to Pam.Jones1@us.army.mil within 3 business days of this notice. This notice is not a solicitation or request for offers - it is a sources sought notice for information purposes only.
