Description
CMS has awarded CPFF contract HHSM-500-2010-00028C to National Government Services, Inc. of Indianapolis, IN. The contract award is a two (2) year base with 3 option years. The contract is for the Payment File Development Contractor (PFDC) to assist CMS in making Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) incentive payments to eligible Medicare professionals (EPs) and hospitals under the HITECH Act. As required under the HITECH Act, CMS must begin making incentive payments in FY2011 to EPs and hospitals for a period of five years. CMS intends to use a PFDC to help make HITECH payments to Medicare EPs and hospitals and to ensure proper funds control and accounting related to these payments. Title IV of Division B of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) (Pub. L. 111-5) amends Titles XVIII and XIX of Social Security Act (the Act) by establishing incentive payments for EPs and hospitals to promote the adoption and meaningful use of Health Information Technology (HIT) and qualified Electronic Health Record (EHRs). The expanded use of HIT and EHRs is considered essential in order to significantly improve both the quality and value of American health care. Collectively, these provisions, together with Title XIII of Division A of ARRA, are termed the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act).
