Description
1.1). Specifications call for a mill, 2" Asphalt Base and 2" Asphalt Surface Course: Do we mill 4" If not, then what depth:; Is the milling depth on the roadway different than the parking lot? Mill road surface to 4". 1.2). Will the area to be patched be marked in paint so all bidders have the same measurement? Yes, areas will be marked by 2PM Tuesday August 3rd 2010. Using approved practices for roadway inspection and condition assessment, areas to be repaired are also at the discretion of the Contractor in conjunction with VA approval. 1.3). If the mill and overlay is 4" depth; then what is the depth of the asphalt patching? 6" on top of a stable 8"sub-base or at the best discretion of the Contractor with VA approval. 1.4). If the patch areas need to be undercut, how will the removal and replacement of the sub-base be paid? Square Yard 1.5). Is there a required phasing for the road work and parking lot or will we have the entire areas at one time? If one lane can be worked at a time, the entire project can be done at once with traffic control. If the requirement is to close both lanes at once, sections will be selected based on area traffic and time of day. 1.6). What is the required testing if any? Per ASTM D2950 1.7). Is there a water source for our rollers and milling machine? Water source will be provided. Please estimate quantity to be used to facilitate source point selection. 1.8). Is there a staging area for our equipment? If so,what is the location? Yes, a staging area will be available. Area is just south of building 310, besides the boiler plant. 1.9). What are the work hours ? Work hours are dependent on phasing requirements set forth in question 5 above. Normal VA specified work hours are M-F 7-4:30. Weekends and evenings (10 PM Cut-off for all work) can be requested, but are subject to approval. 1-10). Is night shift work required or is it optional in areas where there's a high concentration of parking evident. Examples would be: - Residential Parking - along 300 Row - Parking Lot adjacent to fire station. - Parking area in bid alternate. Normal VA specified work hours are M-F 7-4:30. Weekends and evenings (10 PM Cut-off for all work) can be requested, but are subject to approval. Work hours are dependent on phasing requirements set forth below: If one lane can be worked at a time, the entire project can be done at once with traffic control. If the requirement is to close both lanes at once, sections will be selected based on area traffic and time of day. 1-11). Regarding several pull-off areas along Butler Avenue, it was discussed in the pre-bid meeting these areas were included to be re-surfaced. However, does the stone run-off strip continue each pull-off area? No, stone run-off strip does NOT continue around the pull off or parking areas. And does the outer white striping go around the pull-off areas? Maintain white line distance from the center line. 1-12). Regarding the alternate for the upgrade in the southern half of the main parking lot, will there be arrangements already made for referenced area to be cleared of all parking during re-surfacing? Due to the volume of vehicle traffic in that lot during the day, the VA requests that the lot either be done in phases (1/2 x 1/2) during normal working hours, or scheduled to be accomplished on a weekend. 1-13). There are areas along each side of Butler Avenue where the elevation of the soil is either equal or higher than proposed finished surface of paving. The spec calls for the 12 inch run-off strip to be within +/- 1/4" of finished road surface. Only way to accomplish this would be to cut and remove existing growth and topsoil enough before strip is installed. Please advise. Areas that are currently above the grade of the road will be cut down to meet grade after application of the run-off strip. 1-14). A description of the striping requirements down the center of the road is requested. Is it required that (2) solid lines apply or is one solid line sufficient? The VA requests a double yellow line. Also please clarify if white striping on the outer edges is required? The VA requests white striping on the outer edge where possible. 1.15). How many Linear Feet of edge line is there? The length is estimated at 3975 feet. (per side) 1.16). Is the center line going to be 4" Single Line or 4" Double Line? The VA requests a double yellow line. 1.17). How many Linear Feet is the center line going to be? The length is estimated at 3975 feet. 1.18). Are liquidated damages associated with this bid? No
