- PROJECT INFORMATION: The Contractor shall provide all necessary equipment, facilities, and materials to perform demolition of two dams on the Des Plaines River, Armitage Dam and Fairbanks Dam. Both dams are low head, run of the river dams. The contract includes preparation and restoration of access, haul, staging and storage areas and hauling and properly disposing all clearing activity debris and dam demolition debris. The Armitage Dam spillway is 110 feet long with an adjacent 5.5 foot wide boat portage at the west abutment. Both of these features shall be removed. The dam is constructed of reinforced concrete. The dam crest is approximately five feet above the dam apron. The dam apron shall remain. Armitage Dam is supported by abutments that shall remain in place. (See drawings) Armitage Dam is located in the Cook County Forest Preserve within River Grove, Cook County, Illinois. The general area surrounding the Armitage Dam is bounded by Fullerton Avenue to the north, Thatcher Avenue to the east, North Avenue to the south and First Avenue on the west. Fairbanks Dam is assumed to be constructed of reinforced concrete. Cross sectional dimensions are approximately two feet by two feet and the dam is158 feet long. The Fairbanks Dam crest is shaped like a peaked roof. There exists a partial breach at the south bank. At the north bank, the dam is joined to the bank by a stepped concrete wall with three of the five steps of this stepped wall being removed as shown in the drawings. Fairbanks Dam is located between the Village of Riverside, Illinois and the Town of Lyons, Illinois in Cook County. The surrounding area has Fairbanks Avenue on the north, Millbridge Street to the west, and 39th Street to the south. The immediate south bank is Cook County Forest Preserve property. ACQUISITION INFORMATION: Competition for this acquisition is RESTRICTED to SMALL BUSINESS CONCERNS. The Classification Code for this procurement is North American Industry System Code 237990, which applies a small business size standard. The magnitude of cost for this construction project is estimated between $1M and $5M. The Invitation for Bids (IFB) Package will be downloadable from the INTERNET ONLY. The project specification files are Portable Document Format (PDF) files and can be viewed, navigated or printed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Interested Bidders can download the IFB Package from the Internet Site http://www.Fbo.gov. The IFB will be available at the above-mentioned Internet site at the end of August 2010. In order for contractors to be awarded contracts with the Department of Defense, the contractor must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR); Contractors can access the CCR for free at http//www.ccr.gov.
