- The purpose of this announcement is to provide notice that the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Contracting Office contemplates releasing a sole source solicitation numbered N8147100043 for the necessary repairs to stabilize the Alcatraz Water Tower. PROJECT DESCRIPTION. The Alcatraz Water Tank is an elevated steel tank supported by six columns secured to concrete footings. It has a capacity of 250,650 gallons, and stands 93 feet above ground. The tank was constructed in 1940-41, and is suffering from the effects of age and the harsh environmental conditions endemic to its location in San Francisco Bay. Deterioration is evident in rusted members and connections that have lost steel thickness and soundness. Deterioration has occurred in nuts connected to foundation bolts, foundation angle plates, rivets, and steel laces on columns and beams. Deterioration also appears to exist at the connection of the tank to the columns and with rivets connecting sections of the tank skin. This project will repair, stabilize, seismically upgrage, and preserve the water tower. A complete schedule of repairs which will meet both the scope and objectives stated above will be developed as part of this project. In some cases specific criteria are provided for determining repair actions. In other cases the criteria are subjective. Unless otherwise provided, the Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, tools, supplies, and supervision to perform all work required to complete the project in accordance with the statement of work and provisions of this contract. The estimated price range is between $500,000 and $1,000,000. PARTICIPATION. The contract for this project is being sole-sourced to MTM Builders, Inc., of San Diego, CA under the Small Business Administration's 8(a) Program. Interested parties should contact MTM for subcontracting opportunities. It is the Government's intent to award a firm fixed price construction contract for this project. The North American Industrial Classification System Code (NAICS) is 237990. The Small Business Size Standard for this procurement is Annual Receipts Less Than $33M.
