Description
We listed Holmgren milk-vetch (Astragalus holmgrenorium) as a threatened species on September 28, 2001 (66 FR 49560). The species is endemic to Washington County, Utah, and adjacent parts of Mohave County, Arizona. This project will provide information contributing to the recovery of Astragalus holmgreniorum as outlined in the Spotlight Species Action Plan and the Recovery Plan (USFWS 2006 & 2009). The objective is to conduct research with the purpose of providing critical information on two processes that are determining the size and quality of the seed bank. We require that the work be performed by a qualified entomologist with experience working with federally listed plant species in Washington County, Utah, and Mohave County, Arizona. The work will involve, but not be limited to studying seed dispersal as well as seed predation. The project will include studying and reporting distance seeds travel from parent plants and vectors for movement. The project will also include analyzing seed predation. The seed predation portion of the project should include, but not be limited to: rate at which seeds are lost to predators; determine important predators and their role in limiting the number of viable seeds as well as their role in dispersing seeds; an assessment of the predispersal seed predation; and an assessment of the postdispersal seed predation. Researcher(s) must meet U.S. Office of Personnel Management's Standards for either the Zoology Series (0410) or the Entomology Series (0414). Researcher(s) must also have specialized experience in the following: 1. Seed dispersal analysis, experience with Astragalus holmgrenorium or other threatened and endangered plant species in the vicinity of Astragalus holmgrenorium will be given preferential weight 2. Surveying and inventorying for threatened and endangered plant species in Utah3.Knowledge and experience observing and analyzing seed predation
