- Pre-Solicitation Notice This project involves the replacement of the center observation platform and the security fencing at the Soo Locks Facility, located in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. The observation platform removal includes the demolition of the existing steel structure and concrete footings, as well as removal of several existing electrical devices that will be reinstalled on the new platform. Construction of the new observation platform includes installing new concrete footings and constructing a new steel structure in the same location as the existing structure. The new structure will have two elevated viewing platforms and will be constructed of galvanized steel with glass walls, a metal roof and an insulated wall panel system. The project also includes reinstallation of various electrical devices and installation of new light fixtures inside the platform and mounted to the exterior of the structure. In addition, this project will include the removal of an existing chain link security fence located between the Locks and the public park at the Soo Locks Facility and the fabrication and installation of a new steel security fence. New fence shall be of welded construction, shall match the existing park fence in construction materials and appearance, and shall be installed in new concrete footings. New fence and gates shall incorporate existing historic concrete pillars and existing mechanical gate opener as described in the plans and specifications. Construction shall be performed in a manner that will maintain a secure perimeter around the Locks during construction by use of temporary fencing or other means as necessary. General Information : Location: Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan This project will be advertised as a small business set aside. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) Code applicable to this requirement is 237990. The small business size standard for this requirement is $33.5 million in average annual receipts over the past three years. The estimated construction cost is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. This project requires knowledge of fencing fabrication and installation. This contract will have a 6 month completion requirement. The estimated award date of the contract is 15 Sep 2010.
