Description
Building 600 was constructed in 1937 and is a block, brick and concrete structure that encompasses approximately 71,590 SF. It is currently used as Bachelor Officer Quarters (BOQ). The first floor porches and associated breezeways all have concrete floors and ceilings. The outer wall consists of decorative brick arches and wooden railings. The back/side walls consist of the outer brick walls of the building. The lighting consists of ceiling hung and surface mounted lantern style lights. The concrete porch ceilings have deteriorated due to water intrusion and age. There are small to large areas of spalling caused by a build up of pressure from the expansion of rusting rebar. Several areas of exposed # 5 rebar cages were observed and the extent of the length and depth of damage could not be ascertained without the removal of additional concrete. There are also several areas of damage to the masonry wall where the concrete ceiling is joined to the masonry wall. The South entrance exterior masonry walls have approximately 160 SF of missing or damaged mortar joints. The North entry/breezeway exterior masonry walls have approximately 270 SF of missing or damaged mortar joints. The Southeast, Northeast, Northwest and Southwest porch exterior masonry walls have approximately 110 SF of missing or damaged mortar joints on each. These voids on the exterior of the masonry walls are contributing to the water intrusion and furthering the damage to the concrete and masonry damage.
