Description
This project will provide industrial access improvements at Naval Support Activity Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NAVSUPPACT Norfolk NSY). These upgrades will include combating terrorism (CT) measures required for current security and terrorist threats. The new construction will consist of the following: security gates; crash gates; hardened fencing; hardened guard house with head facilities, intrusion detection system (IDS), closed circuit color television (CCTV) and alarm duress system; pump station to accommodate new guard house sanitary facilities; guard house canopy with security lighting; standard electronic directional, marquee, and roadway signage; hardened forward position individual sentry inspection booths; elevated traffic control lane islands with bullnose protection; site lighting (with a standard level of luminescence and an capability to increase luminescence under higher threat levels); rejection area for privately owned vehicles (POVs) and trucks located bef! ore guard house; improvements to truck and POV inspections facility with the capability of stacking commercial vehicles (i.e. tractor trailers) and POVs respectively; a pop-up post retention barriers for each of the truck inspection lanes; a shelter to house personnel while their vehicle is being inspected; additional CCTV and LAN connections to facilitate badging of personnel; video surveillance systems; area for outbound vehicle inspections; active vehicle barriers designed to facilitate snow, sand, and salt removal; raised traffic median; hardened watch towers (one in the truck inspection area and one inside the shipyard perimeter fence with line-of-sight between towers); hardened elevated firing position located behind active barriers; hardened backup generator; sidewalks on both the inbound and outbound sides with bicycle walking entry/exit gates; pedestrian turnstiles with ID card readers; renovation of existing pass/ID office and parking spaces to accommodate pass/ID visitor and contractor parking requirements; demolition of concrete and asphalt paving; new asphalt and concrete paving; and ! a new access turn lane west bound on George Washington Highway turning south toward Gate 15. Security gates will be located at installation perimeter to allow the base to be closed. This project provides CT features and enhancements, including vehicle barriers, guard facilities, lighting, and other related features at one installation perimeter entrance location.
