Description
The U.S. Geological Survey intends to award a purchase order to the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), Oakland, CA for the preparation and publication of a special issue of the scientific journal, "Earthquake Spectra," devoted to the ShakeOut Scenario and the preparedness events based on this scenario in the 2008 Great Southern California ShakeOut. "Earthquake Spectra" is the only respected, peer-reviewed scientific journal that is so broadly multi-disciplinary that it can provide the publication staff, reviewers, and subscribers/readers in all multi-disciplinary fields including but not limited to: earthquake geology, landslide geology, and geophysics; high-performance computing; earthquake and structural engineering; earthquake loss estimation; decision science; disaster sociology; environmental and health science; disaster economics; disaster policy and planning; emergency management; disaster education and outreach. No other entity can reach the all of the intended audience to capture the breadth of multi-disciplinary scientific professionals which include civil, geotechnical, mechanical and structural engineers; geologists, seismologist, and other earth scientists; architects and city planners; public officials; social scientists; and researchers in all of the disciplines. No other entity possesses the capability for experienced peer reviews to covering the range of papers in the ShakeOut Scenario project. Only the scientific journal, "Earthquake Spectra" has been able to publish works on ground deformation (geology), strong motion prediction (seismology), structural failures (structural engineering), lifeline performance (civil engineering), emergency response (disaster management), loss estimation (economics), earthquake mortality (public health) and human response to disasters (sociology) all in one journal. Duration of purchase order: Date of Award through 12/31/2011, with final delivery 12/31/2011. No solicitation documents will be issued.
