Description
Total Ion Control or TIC Idaho National Laboratory, managed and operated by Battelle Energy Alliance LLC, is soliciting expressions of interest from qualified companies interested in licensing and commercializing its "Method for Producing Electrostatic Fields for Ion Optics." Preferred candidate(s) must be willing to enter into an agreement to commercialize or collaborate through a CRADA to integrate INL's patent application Method for Producing Electrostatic Fields for Ion Optics into an existing or novel commercial instrument. Technology: A method that eliminates the need for multiple electrodes for producing complex electrostatic fields for ion optics commonly used in instruments such as mass spectrometers and ion mobility spectrometers to control the motion of ions. Development Status: The concept has been tested to demonstrate that various complex electrostatic fields can be created using resistive materials (i.e., semiconductive). The concept was tested as an add-on component to a commercial instrument. The INL has a patent application for this invention. Benefits: Produces custom, complex electrostatic fields with minimum number of electrodes. Key benefit is that elaborate fields for controlling ion motion through a scientific instrument can be created from as few as one resistive electrode, which leads to the following: •Ø Simple construction of instrumentation •Ø Enhanced robustness due to fewer parts and solid construction •Ø Reduced cost of electronics •Ø Less susceptible to electrostatic distortion •Ø Reduced mass/weight of instruments •Ø Facilitates miniaturization of instrumentation •Ø Eliminate insulators and their detrimental charging effects •Ø Enables instrumentation that is simultaneous optimized for electric potentials and air flow This is not a procurement. Companies and/or interested parties who are capable of performing this project are invited to indicate their interest by providing the INL a brief summary of their capabilities, including brief description of facilities, personnel, and existing manufacturing experiences as it relates to this invention. Please provide your written statement of interest within 45 days from the date of this announcement is published to ensure your consideration.
