Description
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) -Iowa City, is soliciting and intends to award a firm fixed price contract for Architecture/Engineering (A/E) services, "A/E Renovate & Expand Space for Patient Support Areas" at the VAMC in Iowa City, IA. NAICS Code 541310, size standard $4.5 million. The A/E contract will include, but is not limited to site investigation, design documents, construction documents, and construction period services. Building 2 shall be expanded and completely renovated to house engineering services, both administrative and shops. In addition, the basement area vacated in Building 1 that housed engineering shops shall be renovated for Tissue Typing. Should funding permit, area vacated by Tissue Typing on 10th Floor East of Building 1 shall be renovated for administrative functions. Building 2 is a two story building, approximately 15,500 sq ft, currently housing research activities and warehouse. The warehouse section shall not be included in the renovation. Construction will require phasing to sequence several moves, anticipation of impact on the loading dock and warehouse plus traffic flow near the construction site. Approximate total renovation for project is 30,600 sq ft with an additional 3,600 sq ft for Building 2. In performance of this work, the A/E must include a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and an independent third party Fire Protection Engineer (FPE). The independent FPE shall be involved with reviews of the fire safety aspects of the design. The CIH shall be involved with the design and construction period services of asbestos abatement. The person assigned to these positions must be clearly indentified in Section E of the SF 330 in order for the A/E firm to be considered. The estimated construction cost range is between $5,000,000.00 and $10,000,000.00. Area of consideration: prime A/E firms must be within a 150 mile radius of the VAMC, 601 Highway 6 West, Iowa City, IA 52246. Please submit your qualifications and past performance data on the SF 330 (architecture-engineer qualifications); and for any consultants to be used, on the SF 330 sections E and F.
