Description
The Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Product Manager Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment (PM-SCIE), Natick, MA is conducting a market survey to locate potential manufacturers or suppliers of an insulated fabric container for use in Army Special Forces Military Freefall operations. The container will be mounted to the front chest of the parachutist and enclose a ruggedized computer serving as the central component of a Parachutist Navigation System (PARANAVSYS). The container will have the following specifications- "Ruggedized Performance- The container should be semi-rigid and provide protection against routine wear from regular operations. The container must also operate in harsh environmental conditions and provide a protective layer of insulation to the computer inside. At an extreme, exposure to a low temperature of -65F at 35,000 ft is expected for 2 minutes followed by sharp increase of 35 F over 75 seconds and then a gradual increase of 2F per minute for 40 minutes. The container with the computer must withstand a 10g mechanical shock and be capable of storage in accordance with MIL-STD-810-G environmental parameters. "The container must securely hold the computer in place throughout all stages of the MFF mission including aircraft ascent, jump commands, final approach, exit from aircraft, parachute deployment, canopy flight, prepare to land and landing. The container must also serve in a follow-on mission capacity if desired. "The container dimension will not exceed 8 wide, 3 deep and 7 in height. The weight of the enclosed computer will not exceed 5 lbs. "The container must be wearable in the front of the parachutist and configurable with standard Military Freefall equipment including the MC-4 ram air parachute system with jumpers in the Slick configuration as well as Combat Equipped (CE) consisting of; Parachutists Drop Bag (PDB front or rear mount, MOLLE vest, wearable body armor and Center Mounted Weapon Harness (CMWS). "The container must also be capable of being worn by the 5th percentile female through the 95th percentile male. The container will allow easy access to the enclosed computer with an unhindered view. "The container will include a magnetic compass alongside of the computer for backup navigation. All interested firms and manufacturers, regardless of size, are encouraged to respond to this request for information. Information submissions should include available technology, product literature and illustrations, and relevant company background/experience. Available product pricing will also be provided as part of the information submission. Information submissions must be received by 11 June 2010.
