Description
RECOVERY - This action is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. Task 085-R.1 (ARP) is a faculty and student research and development effort thatis aligned to the core work of task 085-R. This work is part of the Aligned ResearchProgram (ARP) under the contract. Research funded by this task will focus on addressingthe capacity challenges facing the US national airspace. It has been forecast that overthe next 15 years, air traffic in the United States will double, far exceeding thecountrys current capability to safely fly aircraft. To handle this growth, NASA iscontributing to the development of the Next Generation Air Transportation ManagementSystem (NextGen). In support of these efforts, the UARC will investigate new approaches to safelyincreasing the number of aircraft that can operate in the national airspace at any giventime. More specifically, air traffic management research funded by this task will focuson developing simulation capabilities, such as creating appropriate test scenarios, integrating the appropriate hardware and software, and managing human-in-the-loopsimulations themselves, in order to demonstrate more efficient approaches to schedulingaircraft arrivals in the congested airspace near major airports. The Aligned ResearchProgram work covered by this award is entitled, Algorithms for Efficient Approaches toScheduling Aircraft Arrivals Prior to Entering TRACON.This award notice is for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. The task order is issued under anexisting Cost-Plus-Award-Fee contract NAS2-03144, which was made on a competitive basis.Due to the variability of this research and development work a Cost-Plus-Award-Fee taskorder was determined appropriate.
