- Notice of Intent: The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, VA Central Iowa Health Care System, Des Moines Division intends to award to the Iowa Events Center a commercial purchase order using Simplified Acquisition Procedures for event space and services for the 24th National Veterans Golden Age Games scheduled for May 26, 2010 through May 31, 2010. The National Veterans Golden Age Games is the premier senior adaptive rehabilitation program in the United States, and the only national multi-event sports and recreational seniors' competition program designed to improve the quality of life for all older veterans, including those with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. The facility must be large enough to accommodate an estimated 1100 participants, judges, spectators and volunteers for the Golden Age Games. The proposed action is for a versatile, multi-faceted event facility for indoor game events running simultaneously and the capacity for the large number of attendees in the Des Moines, Iowa local area. The Government believes that there is only one responsible source and no other sources can satisfy the agency's requirement. A Justification for Other than Full and Open competition has been prepared in support of this acquisition. This notice is not a request for competitive quotes. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed action is solely within the discretion of the Government. The anticipated award date is May 12, 2010. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) Code is 711310; with a small business size standard of $7 million.
