Description
The Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Product Manager Soldier Clothing and Individual Equipment (PM-SCIE), Natick, MA is conducting a market survey to locate potential manufacturers or suppliers of a ruggedized computer platform for use in Army Special Forces Military Freefall operations. The computer will serve as the central component of the Parachutist Navigation System (PARANAVSYS) and have the following specifications- "Ruggedized Performance- The computer must operate in harsh environmental conditions. At an extreme, exposure to a low temperature of -65F at 35,000 ft is expected. The computer must also withstand a 10g mechanical shock and be capable of storage in accordance with MIL-STD-810-G environmental parameters. The computer should also be able to withstand pressurization to two atmospheres. "The computer will be limited in size and fit into a protective case 8 wide, 3 deep and 7 in height. "The computer must not weight more than 5 lbs. A weight less than 2.5 lbs is preferred. "Internal commercial and military SAASM GPS receiver. If internal SAASM GPS is not available an integration plan must be in place. The receiver must be able to log data points at a rate of at least one per second. A GPS lock is also desired within 20 seconds of a warm start when average or better signal is available. The computer will also have a connection to receive input from an external GPS antenna. The computer will allow the GPS receiver to be turned off manually apart from WiFi radios. "A Windows Operating System is required. A solid state hard drive is required with a preferred size of at least 100 GB with 2GB of RAM. "The computer must have 802.11 Wireless and USB ports for data transfer. A Bluetooth capability is not necessary but desired. Information is also requested on any additional data ports that may also be included with the hardware such as VGA, HDMI or Wireless USB. "The computer battery must have a least a 3 hour duration between charges. 6 hours is desired with a hot swappable capability to enable a battery change without loss of power. "The Display screen must be visible for both day and night operations covering the full range of natural ambient light conditions. A touch screen capability is desired. Text entry will be with a QWERTY keyboard. All interested firms and manufacturers, regardless of size, are encouraged to respond to this request for information. Information submissions should include available technology, product literature and illustrations, and relevant company background/experience. Available product pricing will also be provided as part of the information submission. Information submissions must be received By 20 May 2010.
