The purpose of Honors Camp is to introduce a diverse population of AFJROTC college bound cadets with scientific, high technoloy and rated career opportunities in the Air Force. When Honors Camp was initiated in 2004 a highly comprehensive process was set forth in selecting a location for the camps. Four major consideration were measured against to choose the appropriate locations 1. The location hosts a senior ROTC program on campus 2. the university is near an active duty Air Force installation that provides aerospace and technology directorates, 3. it has access to aerospace industry in the local area and 4. the university has its own certified Fixed Based Operational flying facility that offers each cadet ground school and the opportunity to fly in a light aircraft. The University of Oklahoma is the only known source capable of billeting and feeding 54 cadets and eight JROTC instructors in close proximity of all Honors Camp activities at the University of Oklahoma and Tinker AFB. The University of Oklahoma is also the only known source capable to provide administrative suppoer, recreational instruction, recreational facilities and bus transportation to and from various locations for staff and cadets.
