Description
Recovery - THIS NOTICE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. This opportunity is available only to the Brookhaven National Laboratory management and operating contractor. The management and operating contract was competitively awarded and implements a multidisciplinary science program for the Office of Science. The strategic uncertainties of the experimental research and development outcomes do not facilitate award of a fixed price contract. Enhanced Geothermal Systems Research and Development Brookhaven National Laboratory will use the funds for the carbonation reaction mechanisms between the supercritical carbon dioxide and reservoirs rocks in aqueous and non-aqueous environments, and develop chemical modeling of carbon dioxide reservoir rock interactions. This funding will be used to develop and characterize field-applicable geopolymer sealing materials in the laboratory and transfer the developed material technology to geothermal drilling service companies. Brookhaven National Laboratory will work with Los Alamos National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to first development and implement suites of traces consisting of compounds with different chemical and physical properties that will interact in measurable ways with fractured rock matrix. Additionally, funds will be used to develop and implement test designs and corresponding interpretation methods to extract the temperature distribution and surface area information from breakthrough curves.
