- A decade ago, the National Wildlife Refuge System undertook a major planning effort that culminated in a vision document for the Refuge System, Fulfilling the Promise: the National Wildlife Refuge System. Today, new and emerging challenges face the Refuge System and new perspectives are needed. The purpose of the conference is to assemble Fish and Wildlife Service employees from the National Wildlife Refuge System and other Programs, members of other Federal agencies, and members of non-governmental partner organizations and engage in the process of setting new vision statements and management recommendations that will guide the growth and management of the Refuge System into the coming decade. Participants of the conference will be involved in charting the new course for the Refuge System's unique role in protecting and managing our nation's natural heritage of fish, wildlife, and plants.
