- NASA LaRC has a requirement for Spinel transparent ceramic windows as follows:1. Shall be a piece of Spinel, magnesium aluminum oxide, MgAl2O4, transparentpolycrystalline ceramic manufactured to a size of 12-inch by 12-inch by 0.5 inch with assawed edges and polished to a commercial grade finish. The saw edge tolerance shall be+/- 0.125-in and the thickness tolerance shall be +/- 0.002-in. Quantity: 4 each 2. Shall be a piece of Spinel, magnesium aluminum oxide, MgAl2O4, transparentpolycrystalline ceramic manufactured to a size of 14-inch by 16-inch by 0.5 inch with assawed edges and polished to a commercial grade finish. The saw edge tolerance shall be+/- 0.125-in and the thickness tolerance shall be +/- 0.002-in. Quantity: 6 each 3. Shall be a piece of Spinel, magnesium aluminum oxide, MgAl2O4, transparentpolycrystalline ceramic manufactured to a size of 14-inch by 16-inch by 0.25 inch withas sawed edges and polished to a commercial grade finish. The saw edge tolerance shallbe +/- 0.125-in and the thickness tolerance shall be +/- 0.002-in. Quantity: 5 each
