Description
RECOVERY ARRA Project entitled "Study of Lifestyle, Environment, and Fibroids (SELF)" (formerly entitled "Prospective Study of Risk Factors for Uterine Leiomyomata"), to be conducted under Contract HHSN291200555546C, Social and Scientific Systems, Inc. In accordance with NIH guidance pertaining to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) we are providing the following information. The prospective study will be accomplished as an in scope Work Assignment. Name of Contractor: Social and Scientific Systems, Inc. Location: Silver Spring, MD Place of Performance: Detroit, Michigan Description of Requirement: This is a proposed longitudinal cohort study investigating the incidence and growth of uterine fibroids in a cohort of up to 1,943 African American women, ages 23-34. The investigation will explore hypotheses relative to a population which has 3 times the surgery rate experienced in Caucasians as a result of fibroids, the leading indicator for hysterectomy. Specific tasks to be conducted (not all inclusive) consist of 1. providing Institutional Review Board (IRB) support, 2. assembling and supporting a Community Advisory Board (CAB), 3. furnishing materials, equipment, services, and facilities necessary to collect study data, to recruit, enroll, and communicate with participants, and coordination efforts, 4. conducting follow-up, 5. monitoring data collection, and 5. quality control. ARRA effort will be conducted over a two (2) year period with additional follow-up continuing for an extended period. The original contract was competed as a small business set-aside. A Cost Plust Fixed Fee (CPFF) contract was awarded because the uncertainties involved in contract performance do not permit costs to be estimated with sufficient confidence to permit the use of any type of fixed price contract (FAR 16.302-1
