- Kootenai National Forest Hand Tree Thinning and Pruning This requirement is located on the Libby Ranger District and is estimated at approximate 23 separate stands to include about 567 acres of hand tree thinning and approximately 6 stands of hand pruning of white pine (about 155 acres). Three units will require a walk in of less the 1/4 mile. The stands shall be thinned to an average of 250 - 350 trees per acre depending on stand specifications. Best Tree Thinning process will be used with each stand having unique specification. The Western White Pine Pruning process will include selection of trees without visible signs of Blister Rust. Pruning Shears shall be used (no Chainsaws) to ensure the boles are not damaged. All branches up to a height of seven (8) feet shall be cut to within one inch of the limb collar and needles removed at the bole. No clearing of slash around the pruned trees. All items, or a combination, may be awarded depending on prices received and funding available at the time of award. Solicitation is expected to be posted on or about 28 Apr 2010 and expected to close on or about 13 May 2010
