- Description
- The Utah Reclamation Mitigation and Conservation Commission (Commission) is responsiblefor mitigating the impacts to fish and wildlife that resulted from construction of the Central UtahProject. As part of its mitigation program, the Commission has developed the Provo RiverRestoration Project (PRRP). This project will restore 12 miles of the middle Provo Riverbetween Jordanelle and Deer Creek Reservoirs in Wasatch County, Utah. This section of riverwas channelized in the 1950s and 1960s, and consequently lost many of its abundant naturalresources, such as riparian forests, emergent wetland, backwaters, and deep fishing holes. It isthe objective of the PRRP to realign the river to a more natural channel and regain the vegetativeand wildlife resources once supported by the river. Construction activities associated with the restoration project will create many new landscape features. During these construction activities, some natural riverine and upland areas will be disturbed. The Commission will actively re-vegetate constructed features and disturbed areas with native, local plant materials as each construction phase is completed.
